More than former Boy Scout leaders who appeared in the so-called "Perversion Files" were being singled out Tuesday. More than 7, Boy Scouts of America leaders nationwide were accused by the lawyers of child sex abuse. Many of the former Scout leaders appeared in a sweeping Los Angeles Times database dating to October that tracked thousands of men and women who were kicked out of the organization between and January due to suspected sex abuse. Jeff Anderson said he planned to file multiple lawsuits against the Boy Scouts on behalf of many victims. Boy Scout councils, which are headed by three people, are divided into districts that operate individual scouting units. There are more than , scouting units nationwide, the organization wrote on its website.

The response from the two organizations comes after six former scouts filed a civil lawsuit in Rockingham Superior Court against them in May. The lawsuit accuses both organizations of negligence and fraudulent concealment, alleging both groups allowed Perreault to continue in his capacity as a scoutmaster despite reports of abuse. Perreault is serving 12 to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to 13 counts of felonious sexual assault and four counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault after several former scouts cooperated in a criminal investigation against him, which began in The civil lawsuit against the Boys Scouts of America describes a pattern of abuse committed by Perreault against the six John Does, listed as plaintiffs with their initials.
