As a wedding photographer, spray tanning for brides has always been a concern for me. Each of our wedding booking appointments I warn my brides about the pitfalls of a bad spay tan, which I have listed below. Things have changed though. With new spray tan products, technology, and experienced applicators or therapists, the results are more natural and better than ever before. To get the best results, which is highly recommended for your wedding, there are some steps and guidelines you need to consider. Before that, here are some of the pitfalls of a bad spray tan on your wedding. Because of this horrible list, my recommendation was to err on the side of no spray tan — natural is best. I still stand by those feelings today but am slowly coming around with more and more great tans on brides. If it makes you feel good and confident, then I say go for it! Having photographed so many brides, young women and being married — I understand that there is a self confidence that goes along with a bit of colour.

Superdrug shifts a million bottles of the brown stuff a year, and St Tropez products are so popular one's sold every 15 seconds. During World War II women used old tea bags and Bovril to give their legs a bit of colour, with the first sunless tanner - bizarrely called Man Tan - hitting the market in the 50s. Things have improved a lot since then and now there really is almost nothing setting real and fake tans apart - apart from the health benefits of hitting the bottle. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the UK, with seven people dying from it every day.
You smell, well, weird, until you take a shower, and even after that. Is that cat pee I smell? Oh, no, it's my spray tan. Now, not all formulas leave you with that distinct fake tan smell for at least a day, but most do. The good news: Jergens recently came out with a formula that doesn't smell, so you can actually be around people not have them ask why you stink. If you're in a hurry and don't exfoliate your entire body before actually getting a spray tan or applying self tanner, you will be splotchy.
